Lecturer Description:

Expand your skills in fabric selection. See how to organize your fabrics by color and design. Learn to use basic color harmonies and create quilts that sizzle with excitement. You will leave this lecturer with a new confidence in your ability to select fabrics, combine patterns, and choose new color harmonies for your quilts. You will see 25 actual quilt samples that demonstrate specific color harmonies. No need to take notes, you will be provided with a complete kit including written dialogue from the lecture. Each student will receive an original pattern and a fabric kit to piece a hexagon color wheel.

Workshop:
BLOCK EXPLOSION - Twice the Fun in half the time!

Are you looking for more time to enjoy making quilts? Would you really like to complete a quilt top in a day or a weekend? Block Explosion quilts combine classic traditional blocks re-sized or exploded to a larger scale. For instance, to make a queen size quilt you need at least 35 twelve inch blocks in a standard 5 by 7 setting for a 60 inch by 84 inch top. When you explode the block to a larger scale, say fifteen inches you only need 24 blocks to achieve a 60 inch by 90 inch top.
That’s 11 blocks less to sew! What a timesaver.
Cutting and stitching larger pieces results in more blocks in less time.

Remember those special inspirational fabrics you’ve saved for just the right quilt design. You know the kind I am talking about; large floral, batiks, themes & novelties. The large scale fabric designs are not really appreciated squeezed into smaller pieces. When the block is exploded to a larger size the pieces are also much larger and allow for a larger scale print to fill the space without compromising their designs.

CUSTOMIZED WORKSHOPS

Customize the workshop for your guild. Choose any two quilts from the Block Explosion book and select one day, one and half or a two day workshop. In most cases the blocks can be made in one day, then sewn into rows in a day and half., completed with borders and ready for quilting in two days.
I will be glad to guide you as to which quilts are the easiest to the more complicated designs. Most groups like to have one of each so they can attract all their members to the workshop with something for everyone’s level of ability. Once you select your quilts I will send you yardage and pre-cutting charts to get the group prepared for the workshop.
